Included here are some writings from Vollmann's college days, as well as notes, research materials, drafts and correspondence related to The Song of Heaven, You Bright and Risen Angels, The Convict Bird, The Rainbow Stories, the Seven Dreams cycle, The Ice-Shirt, Fathers and Crows, The Rifles, Argall, Thirteen Stories and Thirteen Epitaphs, Whores for Gloria, An Afghanistan Picture Show, Butterfly Stories, The Grave of Lost Stories, The Atlas, The Royal Family, Rising Up and Rising Down, Europe Central, Uncentering the Earth, Book of Candles, and Poor People. It contains materials acquired in 2005-06, but spanning the period from 1977 to 2007. This collection is a continuation of OSU's archival holdings for this author (see also WTV 1980-2000). In addition, he is a maker of artists’ book, and distributes them through his own press, Cotangent Press. He is also an artist and photographer, and has included this kind of work in his books. Vollmann is a complex and innovative novelist and journalist who has often mixed the two genres, and who often includes autobiographical elements in the mix.
